THOMAS AANGEENBRUG

I am a photographer from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. On this blog you will find both parts of my own work/process and the things that inspire me.

Official website: thomasaangeenbrug.nl

I photographed the fine arts exhibition Een poging tot nieuwe vriendelijkheid, an exhibition by the 4th year students of the fine arts department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, The Hague. I also photographed the catalogue of the exhibition itself, see these three images.

The catalogue is designed by the graphic design duo Papa. See:

The exhibition Unfolded of Scheltens & Abbenes in Museum Jan Cunen, The Netherlands (2012).

Great to see how their perfectionist way of working is being transferred to the creation and conceptualization of this exhibition. Even the maquette is a piece of art, in all it’s detail! :)

Images de Deauville (1936) - Paul Outerbridge
Paul Outerbridge in his book Photographing in Color: “I think that still life presents perhaps the greatest possibilities for purely creative work in color photography, for to put life into still life, into inanimate objects, to create new rhythms and patterns requires imagination.”

A few images from my archive, that remind me of the philosophy of Elspeth Diederix’ work.

Hulahoop (2012) - Elspeth Diederix
It’s almost like this fluorescent colored hulahoop has been placed in a 17th century painting. Great mixture.

Beautiful scene from the movie American Beauty. It is about the reconsideration of beauty.

I came across this scene when researching the work of photographer Elspeth Diederix, who works with the beauty of everyday objects.
